This is the help text for the regional interface and the PDA.
Instructions for Main Transporter features will be explained in this text.
Help: This function brings up an introductory help video which displays information and instructions on how to use the features of the main Transporter interface. The information is presented by an animated character who introduces the main elements and functions of the Transporter Interface.
Region: This function brings up a menu displaying the 7 different regions in Texas. You can select a destination for transporting and accessing regional tourism information with the PDA. The regions are presented by menu on the left and a map of Texas. Select a region from the menu or the map, and then click the GO button. This will transport you to the region where you can view the related tourism information.
Category: This function brings up a menu displaying the 11 different tourism categories in Texas. You can select a destination for transporting and accessing regional tourism information with the PDA. The categories are presented by a menu on the right side. Select a category to hear a small description of the category chosen from the menu. The chosen category will be saved after you select a region. Click the GO button and you will be transported to the region where you can view tourism information by catagory.
KeyWord Seach: Enter a keyword or phrase to activate a text search of an Information database of locations and attractions in Texas. This feature of the PDA searches a regional text database of information related to the specific region. Simply enter in the keyword into the top field (note: the keyword search is case sensitive and area names should be entered with appropriate capitalization). This can be a name of a town or location or even a categorical topic. Then hit <RETURN> or the search button to initiate the keyword search for the desired information. The search tool will then quickly display a list of items containing a match of the keyword you entered. Click on an item in the list to display the Information Text to specifc the item in the list.
Internet: Launch the Internet browser on your system, and connect to The Official Texas Tourism Internet WebSite. This feature, with available memory and proper internet software and connections, will launch the internet browser on your system, and take you to the Official Texas Tourism Internet Site.@ http://www.traveltex.com. Internet activity requires an ACTIVE connection to the Internet via connection software (TCP, Slip, PPP), and a browser (Netscape, Internet Explorer, AOL, etc.). If your computer is NOT actively connected right now, please QUIT to acitvate a proper network connection. When first activated, the Transporter will search your system for browsers available for launching into the Internet. If the field beneath does NOT match the current location of your web browser, click Find Browser. Otherwise, to quit this Texas Tourism CD and connect to the Texas Tourism Website, click any Browser button displayed.
Arcade: This function brings up a menu displaying the various games available for playing on the Texas CD. The games are presented by a menu on the left side. Select a game to see a small description and preview of the game you have chosen. Click the GO button to transport to and play the game.
Extras: This function brings up a menu displaying Extra items on the Texas Cd available for viewing. The Extra categories are presented by a menu on the right side. Select an Extra to to see a small description and preview of the Extra you have chosen. Click the GO button to transport to the Extra and to view the related information.
Volume: Select the master volume level for audio playback. Click and hold the volume button down while pulling up and down over the volume button to adjust the level. Instructions for PDA features will be explained in this text.
Help Intro: This function brings up a display of text based help information and related instructions for using the features of this Regional PDA device. This is a text-based help system that provides a conscise and helpful direction for operating this PDA. The PDA is set up to display various types of media to give the fullest possible view of the State of Texas. The display is controlled by the features of the PDA. Positioned along the top and lower left of the PDA are icons and buttons representing the functional features of this regional information area. Select a Help Topic from the scrolling location list to the left to display related information and instructions for each PDA feature.
Return to Main: Return to the Main Transporter interface to select another region and category for viewing more regional tourism Information. This feature shuts down the PDA, and returns to the Main Transporter interface. Once back, you can transport yourself to another regional information area. The PDA will be reloaded with a whole region's worth of new Texas tourism information for your viewing and knowledge. Replay Video: Replay the introduction slide show and Video featuring our tour guide describing the highlights of the Region selected. This feature returns you to the introductory slide show and video with our tour guide describing some of the highlights of the region selected. You can pause the Slide Show at any time by clicking on the Tour Guide and continue by clicking her again. To cancel the Slide Show and activate the PDA, click on the Texas Patch in the lower right corner. Power On/Off Shut down the PDA to view a background Slide Show, and read more information about the Region currently selected. This feature shuts down the PDA and enables a Slide Show that plays until you return to the Main Transporter interface or reactivate the PDA. While the PDA is turned Off, get more information from the Regional text on the left side of the screen. Scroll up or down to read more or return to the start.
When you are through here, return to the Main Transporter Interface. and select another region to visit.
A different regional selection will provide a new set of locations and related information.
Pull Down Menu
This Pull Down Menu is used to select a category for the
applicable features of the PDA: Audio, Slide Show, Text Info.
Select an Item from the Category Location List to view specific
Categorical text, Help topics, or Virtual Reality Panorama locations.
This feature controls the Category selection for the display of the Informative Region Text and playback of the Category Slide Shows and Audio.
To make a selection from the Pull Down Menu, click the Category heading, or the green rectangle enclosing the currently highlighted Category,and hold the mouse down while pulling downto select a different Category for viewing.
To then View the Regional Text Information, simply Click the name of a Location Item in the Location List to the Left.
To Change the Slide Show during playback, select a new Category from the Pull Down Menu.
Regional Information Text
View text selected from the List of Locations related to the
Region and Category highlighted in the PDA's Pull Down Menu.
This feature displays informative text selected from the PDA's Categorical Pull Down Menu specific to the Region chosen in the Main Menu. To View the Text Information, simply Click the name of a Location Item in the Location List to the Left.
Categorical Audio
Listen to a short description about the current category highlighted in the PDA's Categorical Pull Down Menu. This feature plays informative audio related to the Category selected in the PDA's Pull-Down Menu.
The PDA will play the audio at any time selected, independent of any other PDA feature, except when displaying any Digital Video.
To interrupt the Audio, click the Audio button again, or select another item from the Pull Down Menu, then click the button again to play another sound.
Slide Show
View a small Picture Slide Show displaying some of the sights of Texas related to the current Category highlighted. This feature allows for viewing Pictures related to the Category selected in the PDA's Pull-Down Menu. The PDA will display the first picture in a numbered series of a Categorically chosen, paused slide show. To play the slides automatically, click on the Play button on the PDA below the Internet button. To Pause, hit the Play/Pause button again. To move back in the paused sequence, click on the <<Back button to the lower left of the Play button.
To move up in the paused sequence, click on the >>Forward button to the lower right of the Play button.
Digital Video
View a Promotional Digital Video featuring
some of the highlights of the selected Region.
Use the Play button to Play or Pause the Promotional Video or
the Categorical Picture Slide Show.
Use the <<Back button to Rewind the Promotional Video or
to go Backwards in the Categorical Slide Show sequence.
Use the >>Forward button to Fast Forward the Promotional Video or
to go Forwards in the Categorical Slide Show sequence.
This feature allows for viewing the region's promotional QuickTime Digital Video.
The PDA will display the video automatically.
To play or pause the Video, click on the Play / Pause button on the PDA below the Internet button.
To rewind the Video, click on the rewind button to the lower left of the Play / Pause button.
To fast-forward the Video, hold down the fast forward button on the lower right of the Play / Pause button.
Once the video finishes, click on another icon to continue using the PDA.
Regional KeyWord Seach
Enter a keyword or phrase to activate a text search of an Information database of locations for the selected Region. This feature of the PDA searches a regional text database of information related to the specific region. Simply enter in the keyword into the top field (note: the keyword search is case sensitive and area names should be entered with appropriate capitalization), such as a name of a town or location or a categorical topic and then hit <RETURN> or the Search button to initiate the keyword search for the desired information .
The search tool will then quickly display a list of items containing a match of the keyword entered.
Click on an item in the list to display the Regional Information Text specifc to the item on the list.
QuickTime Virtual Reality
View and Move through Regional QuickTime Virtual Reality
This feature displays QuickTime Virtual Reality 360-degree Panoramic photographic scenes specific to the Region selected in the Main Menu.
To View a Panorama, simply click the name of the scene in the Location List to the Left.
To Navigate QTVR, click and Hold the mouse down while moving it around over the panoramic movie.
Associated with each Panorama is a "hot spot" that, once clicked, will display a Digital Video displaying some featured elements of the panoramic location.
Look for the cursor to turn into a hand with a circle if over a "hot-spot", and click 1 time to start the video.
Click once again at any time to interrupt the video, and automatically return to the panoramic scene.
Texas Patch
Listen to a Texas phrase by clicking
on the Texas Patch in the upper left hand corner of the PDA.
